Is the Volvo 240 heading for Classic Car status?

Theere’s one for sale on eBay (UK) right now and it looks all set to reach £1000, which is an astonishing price for a 21 year old car.

The 240 should be a classic, for durability alone. There were so many made that I don’t think we’ll see them as classic collectors any time soon.
Maybe. It is a well-known model with a lot of followers. If the number of cars is lower than the number of enthusiasts the price will be higher than if it was just another old clunker. There is not going to be another car made like that in the foreseeable future, that’s for sure.
The 240 is getting quite rare now, so people are willing to pay more than usual for one.
NO, only the P1800′s are
in truth yes and no. only the 242 T and the bertone coups were built in quantities small enough to become a true classic.
this is not to say that other model versions will not become collectible antiques, many of these cars were passed down to the off-spring of the original owners and then passed down to their off-spring when they came of driving age. so there are many people that grew up in volvo family’s.
this is the target resale group who will keep companies such I.P.D. in business.
the cars themselves have few inherent faults [old world style wiring, difficult to service heater blower motors, and a weak air-conditioning system [[low output and a compressor that was prone to hydraulic slugging from over charging]].
unlike for example a mid sixties 4 door pontiac executive [which has and will never achieve anything more than "nice old car status" the 244's & 245's have a strong following even when not equipped with a turbo..these cars are true icons of both styling and reliability, stately without being pretentous.
[the original 2 series market target was the 4 cylinder gas powered mercedes 113 body, it achieved
entry mercedes luxury using a plastic interior and fuel injection at approx. 1/3 less the mercedes price [when was the last time you saw a gas 113 ?]
